The Dorrigo Plateau

Wildlife Sounds of the Dorrigo Plateau

The Dorrigo Plateau lies in the Northern Tablelands and New England regions of New South Wales and forms part of the Great Dividing Range. It is characterised by a patchwork of open paddocks and farmland surrounded by extensive forests, These are varied in composition with the rainforest and lowland rainforest habitats being the most productive for wildlife. Many of the threatened bird species recorded in this area are dependent on rainforest, or wet sclerophyll forest with a rainforest understorey, for roosting, nesting and feeding. On the plateau are a number of important national parks, conservation areas and state forests all of which are critical in maintaining the diversity of fauna and flora in the area.

The recordings for this volume were made over a period of 10 years.

This volume covers the wildlife sounds that can be heard across the Dorrigo Plateau in suitable forest habitat and gives the listener a chance to become acquainted with some of the numerous sounds that can be heard within this area. Early morning and evening are the best times to listen for wildlife in the forest.
