Frequently Asked Questions

1. I cannot hear any sound when I tap on a track.

Bark Monitor uses Android's Audio system to record and playback sounds. If no sound is audible you will need to check that you have the Media volume turned up.

To adjust the Media volume go to your devices Settings > Sound > Volume and make sure the Media level is turned up.

2. I get a LOT of very small files if I press record. Each is only about 1 second in duration.

Bark Monitor is designed to listen for sounds that match the finger print created for a dog. The monitoring process has to analyse the incoming sound and compare it to a finger print and produce a result. The complexity of this analysis is such that it requires only 500 m sec of sound to be able to match a sample with the fingerprint. In order to optimise the performance and amount of space, that Bark Monitor requires on a device, all recordings are limited to approximately 1 second duration. It is much easier to listen to samples that are a short duration than having to listen to longer recordings. Make sure the Recording Threshold is set high enough so that only louder sounds activate the recorder.
